About the event

Explore a working watercress farm that is operated by the Watercress Company. Learn about how the watercress growing beds work, the challenges involved in maintaining them, and how the owners are working to protect wildlife at the site.

This event is part of Open Chalk Streams, a project within the Watercress and Winterbournes Landscape Partnership Scheme. We're protecting, enhancing, and celebrating the Rivers Test and Itchen headwaters.

Booking is essential for this event - we cannot admit anyone who has not booked a ticket in advance. Numbers are limited to ensure everyone's safety, so if you can no longer come please contact us as soon as possible on winterbournes@hiwwt.org.uk

 

Key information

Age range: Not suitable for young children. All minors to be accompanied by a responsible adult 1:1

Walking distance: Up to a maximum of 2km.

Accessibility: Suitable only for those with full mobility. The walk includes walking on wet and uneven ground.

Meeting point: At the car parking area (see below).

Car parking: Use what3words code dancer.plus.aimless. Come through the entrance and bear round to the left, where you will see ample space for parking.

Public transport: The farm is about 20 minutes' walk from the centre of Alresford, which is served by buses from Winchester. Please note, however, that many of the roads on this route have no pavements.

Toilets: No toilets are available on site. The nearest public toilets are located near the Watercress Line train station in nearby Alresford.

What to bring:

- Waterproof footwear (ideally wellies).

- Waterproof jacket in case of poor weather.

- Binoculars may be useful for spotting wildlife.
