About the event

Chalk streams are some of England rarest and most precious wildlife habitats. Found almost nowhere else on Earth, and home to many specialist species, these wonderful waterways are a crucial part of our country's ecosystem.

Many parts of our chalk streams could be in better condition, but luckily, there are plenty of methods that can be used to tackle this. The options range from smaller changes to more ambitious improvement works.

In this talk, Neil Swift from Wessex Rivers Trust will explain how to enhance the health of chalk streams. He'll showcase habitats in need of help, explain what actions were taken, and demonstrate their impact. Neil was the River Keeper at Mottisfont Abbey for seven years, and now specialises in river conservation.

This event is part of Watercress and Winterbournes, a Landscape Partnership Scheme that is protecting, enhancing, and celebrating seven local chalk streams.
