Visit in summer to see beautiful butterflies and meadow flowersAbout the reserve
On a bright summer’s day, the meadow shimmers with small copper and common blue butterflies that flit between wildflowers such as oxeye daisy, bird’s-foot-trefoil, pepper-saxifrage and field scabious.
Listen out for the high-pitched song of yellowhammer in spring – these bright little birds are in drastic decline but they thrive at Hoe Road Meadow.
In the winter, the surrounding hedgerows provide plentiful food for flocks of fieldfare and redwing.
