About the event

Created from flooded gravel pits, Blashford Lakes nature reserve is a centre of wildlife activity used by thousands of birds all year round including kingfisher, oyster catcher, common tern, lapwing, grey heron and great crested grebe. The 150 hectare site, managed by the Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust in partnership with Bournemouth Water and Wessex Water, now has a wide range of habitats from open water to reed beds, grassland and woodland which in turn attract a huge variety of birds.  John Clark will lead us on a guided walk around the reserve on gravel paths linking the bird hides and viewing screens. The woodland hide provides us with the opportunity to see birds close up such as the great spotted woodpecker and nuthatch whilst listening to the spring sounds of warblers.
