We are looking for volunteers to help provide support for removal of Invasive Non-Native Species – Himalayan Balsam.

Isle of Wight Balsam Basher Volunteer

Location: Isle of Wight - Meeting at Alverstone Mead or at pre-arranged specific reserves or meeting points along Eastern Yar

Times, days and frequency we'd like you to be available: Tuesdays and/or Fridays

Purpose of role: To provide support for removal of Invasive Non-Native Species - Himalayan Balsam

Tasks involved in this role:

  • Pulling and/or cutting of Himalayan Balsam

Skills and abilities needed:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, carrying, weeding, trimming (essential)
  • Hand tool use (loppers, shears) (training will be provided where required/desired) (desirable)

Specific Considerations:

  • Good physical health and spatial co-ordination is required to carry out the role safely.
  • Able to provide/arrange own transport to and from sites.
