Location: Isle of Wight (IoW) – Initial training at Little Duxmore Farm, with activities carried out at reserves across IoW, convenient to volunteers.
Times, Days, and Frequency: After initial training, any day to suit your own schedule.
Purpose of Role: To provide support to reserve managers by conducting walk-arounds, reporting on site conditions, livestock, wildlife sightings, and any areas of concern.
Tasks Involved:
- Walking and possible wildlife/vegetation identification
- Noting the condition of fencing, trees, gates, and paths
- Advising members of the public where required
- Providing regular short reports
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Essential: Ability to walk, observe, and note changes to outdoor locations. Reports can be submitted electronically via text or email. Warden rounds can be completed at any sites of volunteer interest, either locally or by visiting specific sites of interest.
Specific Considerations:
- Ability to walk in sometimes muddy sites lacking typical public access conveniences
- Attendance at warden training sessions and ability to maintain safe lone working protocols
- Ability to provide or arrange own transport to and from sites
