About the event

Beavers, the ultimate ecosystem engineers, are known for their remarkable ability to increase biodiversity. Their dams help regulate water flow, improve water quality, and reduce the risk of flooding. These mammals were once widespread across the UK but were hunted to near extinction around 400 years ago.

In this talk, Meonside farmers Oliver and Will Atkinson share with us details of an exciting project to reintroduce beavers to a chalk stream near East Meon.

The initiative, led by Meonside Farm in partnership with the University of Southampton and the South Downs National Park Authority, hopes that the beavers will play a key role in transforming the landscape and boosting wildlife populations.

This event is part of Watercress and Winterbournes, a Landscape Partnership Scheme that is protecting, enhancing, and celebrating seven local chalk streams.
